In The Shop Now:  Shields #9 Bolero
This is an exciting and interesting project.  A west coast sailor contracted NYR to rebuild this aging Shields class yacht with some modifications to improve her weekending and simplistic cruising characteristics.  With the stunning hull design of this S&S classic, how could this project be anything but beautiful when complete?

Work on Bolero is nearing completion, with delivery anticipated in July 2008.

SPECULATION PROJECTS
AND
LONG-TERM PROJECTS OWNED BY NYR and TIM LACKEY

Signature Speculation Project Completed 2003-2005
Our signature project is the bare-hull construction of a 28' custom daysailor, complete with a 12' cockpit, small cuddy cabin suitable for overnights, and abundant varnished mahogany trim.  This is an exciting and unique project.  The boat was launched on Friday, August 26, 2005, and enjoyed successful sea trials in the late summer.

This boat was built in the shop upon speculation, and has since been sold to a discriminating buyer.  In 2006, the owner reports that he loves the boat and her performance, and that all his guests want their own now.  He goes on to say, "Windsong sails like a dream, like I expected it would, and you get 10 Gold stars for putting this design together."

Perhaps you might like to consider a similar project for yourself?  We are ready to talk with you about your own custom project.  Please contact us.

Long-Term Personal Project on Site
This 1964 Allied Seabreeze yawl represents a long-term project for Northern Yacht.  Slated to be Tim & Heidi's personal boat, Pixie (formerly Perelandra) was involved in a gasoline fire under her previous ownership; the fire caused substantial damage to the interior, cockpit, and stern quarters, but from a structural standpoint the boat remained relatively sound, and repairable.

Now safely covered and stored outdoors, Pixie awaits demolition, structural work, a new interior, and full cosmetic overhaul, all of which will take place over the next few years as time allows.  This project represents an exciting opportunity.  Pixie will also act as a test bed for a number of new products and techniques  that we hope to incorporate into our repertoire.

As a personal boat, Pixie's rebuilding won't get underway until we can dedicate the time and resources required to attend properly to the boat's needs.  However, we expect her to be sailing again within only a few years.  Stand by, and your patience will be rewarded.

Long-Term Personal Project on Site
This 1960 Lyman 23' runabout is another long-term project currently owned by Northern Yacht.  Recent inspections revealed a number of cracked and rotted ribs, along with some rot in the longitudinal stringers, and several planks requiring replacement.  In addition, for cosmetic purposes she needs a new deck (the old plywood is sound, but not suitable for a bright finish) and new paint and varnish everywhere.

Look for further details in the future.  This is a classic worth waiting for.

Onsite:  Future Speculation Project For Sale
This 1972 Sabre 28, a speculation restoration project, is onsite and awaiting her chance in the shop.  More details will follow as appropriate.  Our plans include completely refinishing the boat inside and out, as well as replacing fuel, water, and electrical systems.  She includes all rigging, sails, and a rebuilt Atomic 4.

This great starter boat is actively for sale now perfect for an enthusiastic and skilled do-it-yourselfer--or at any time during the restoration process.  Or, how about contracting us to rebuild her to your specifications?  Contact Tim.
